SOA Architecture Migration & Performance Overhaul

Led the transformation of an unstable monolithic application into a scalable Service Oriented Architecture at PlotTwist. Delivered a 1,500%+ performance improvement, reduced matchmaking latency from 30+ seconds to under 250ms, and enabled the platform to scale from 15k to 80k users. Implemented data-driven delivery and risk models that improved planning accuracy to 90%+.

Remote Office Management Platform — ucChat & ucVPN

Contributed to and extended Azblink Technology's remote office management platform — a private cloud alternative for enterprise communication. ucChat was a free application connecting users to on-premises Session Border Controllers (SBCs) running inside company networks, enabling internal voice and video calls and access to devices such as security cameras. Built ucVPN (0-to-1) as an accompanying app extending ucChat to remote workers, allowing full office management outside the company while keeping all data under the company's control — no third-party cloud required.

Video Call SDK (0-to-1)

Designed and built an SDK from the ground up at Azblink Technology, enabling enterprise clients to leverage our video calling technology and build their own branded experiences on top of it. Adopted by major corporations serving millions of customers daily, including Mega International Commercial Bank, Chang Hwa Bank, and Taiwan High Speed Rail Corporation.

SVP of Engineering and Architecture

PlotTwist  ·  New York, NY (Remote)

Sep 2023 – Nov 2025

Previously: VP of Engineering  ·  Feb 2022 – Sep 2023

This role operated in the consumer social/dating space, re-architecting backend systems and an iOS app previously outsourced to contractors that were struggling to scale. We migrated from a monolithic Spring Boot system on EC2 to a set of Vapor (Swift-on-Server) services in a Service Oriented Architecture. The iOS app was fully upgraded with more efficient data synchronization and on-device caching, and an Android version was built to expand our TAM. I also proposed and executed a migration from MySQL to Postgres to leverage better location matching and customization at the database level.

On the management side, I owned engineering processes and culture — engaging in active mentorship and ensuring engineers had the tools, knowledge, and support to operate efficiently.

This role spanned hands-on engineering, managing junior and senior engineers, and deep collaboration with the CEO and CMO to make key product decisions.

  • Led architectural transformation boosting performance 1,500%+, enabling scalable expansion
  • Designed and implemented lean engineering processes that reduced regressions by 80%+ while increasing velocity in a small team environment
  • Implemented data-driven delivery and risk models, improving planning accuracy to 90%+
  • Partnered with CEO and CMO to translate product vision into scalable systems and execution, supporting growth from 15k to 80k users
  • Owned infrastructure and security strategy with 0 successful intrusions

This role involved managing all aspects of a business while creating a product 0-to-1. Consumer-grade security cameras were built using ESP32 boards, motion sensors, charging controllers, custom circuitry, and custom software with OTA update support. A "home-base" was created using a Raspberry Pi running custom software — managing cameras, storing recorded video, and including a Zigbee controller to support standard IoT devices such as lights and switches. A VPN app was also built to allow customers to connect directly and securely to their home-base from anywhere.

  • Owned business operations, technical infrastructure, and product end-to-end
  • Built market-ready smart home technology, including hardware and a remote-to-home VPN

Junior Software Engineer

Jolly Technologies  ·  Lexington, KY

Jun 2013 – Sep 2015

Provided software development and maintenance for a suite of asset, people, and event tracking software. The software followed ODBC standards to support any compliant database and allowed full customization of tracking data while including industry-standard formulas. Features included a designer for custom branded IDs and barcodes, integrations with laser scanners (including Honeywell), printers (including Zebra), and security systems (including Brivo and criminal watch-list checks). The role also included direct customer support responsibilities.

  • Independently integrated a printer language, supporting a whole new class of devices
  • Independently pioneered a mobile version of the application, expanding the company's total addressable market
  • Developed software used by hundreds of companies as part of a Silicon Valley-based team
